Chama is located in northern New
Mexico amidst the Rocky Mountains, making it an ideal location for outdoor
recreation and sightseeing vacations. Miles of unspoiled wilderness await visitors,
with hiking, hunting and fishing being popular activities. Off-roading adventures
through the varied terrain are a great way to experience the area's sights. The
pride of Chama is the Cumbres
and Tolmec Scenic Railroad, which winds through the mountains and desert on
a scenic tour of the region from Chama to Antonito,
Colorado. A number of jewelry
and folk art shops are located in Chama and the surrounding area, selling turquoise
and other American Indian-designed pieces. From hotels and inns to bed and breakfasts
and vacation home rentals, visitors to Chama have an array of accommodations to
choose from. Several companies in the area provide guided hunting trips, offering
sportsmen the chance to hunt elk, mule deer, bears and turkeys.
